M.R.E. offers different stages of cylinder head porting, from an everyday streeter to the all out race applications. Each stage is designed for specific combinations and tailored to the power level you are looking to achieve. It is best to contact us with all of your information so we can help you choose which stage of porting will best suit your needs. Please not that certain stages of porting may require other parts to help get the most out of your newly ported cylinder heads. M.R.E. also offers tech help for those who may need it. Below is a breakdown of what each stage consists of.

Stage 1:Choice of bowl port or gasket match.

  • The bowl porting consists of redesigning the bowl area under the valve job, contouring the guide, reshaping the throat and short turn area. This is the best way to gain volume and power in the lower to midrange rpm. Works well with smaller lift camshafts.

  • The gasket match option just increases the port entrance to the size of the gasket being used, and blending it roughly 1"-2" into the port, which when combined with a gasket matched intake, results in a smoother transition from manifold to head.

Stage 2: Street/ Strip

  • This stage includes both Bowl Port and Gasket Match for the best budget type port job and yields excellent results.

Stage 3: Strip

  • This stage is the same as stage 2, but includes combustion chamber profiling. This option includes a modified, polished combustion chamber to further enhance airflow through the cylinder head. The chamber is profiled according to the valve size, bore size, and gasket size, helps create proper swirl in the cylinder, and unshrouds the valves for optimal performance. This is our most popular for budget oriented racers. This option is recommended for pump gas engines.

Stage 4: N2O or Competition

  • The N20 version is designed specifically for those on a budget who want the above and a bit more. We call it the N20 version, but it is mainly suited for any type of forced induction where more attention to the exhaust port is needed. It includes minor porting in the intake runner, fully ported exhaust ports and, bowls, gasket match, and profiled chambers.

Small Block Ford

  • The Competition port consists of all the added features of the N20 port, but comes with semi ported intake runners to achieve more volume within the port, enhanced power from incresed airflow, while keeping a smaller cross section for velocity and torque throughout the entire range. This version typically sees a 15+cc increase in intake port volume. This stage is our most popular for Bracket race combinations.

Stage 5: Maximum Effort

  • The Maximum Effort version is basically that. Anything that we can do to make the casting work to its full potential, and create more horsepower and torque for any race engine. This option also completely redesigns the port to create the most power available from each port. This version typically increases port size by 30+cc. It utilizes head bolt sleeves to get the most from the port useing a wide cross section, and is mainly suited for for all out race engines. It also includes profiling of the valves for optimum performance and even greater airflow. ** Note: Wideing of the port, altering pushrod location, etc...is not included but can be had at an additional cost.

Stage 6: Ultra Maximum Effort

  • This version is mainly designed for the "non-standard" cylinder heads, including any of the 18*-11* valve angle heads, canted valve heads, and spread/raised port heads. This is mainly an all out race only type of port work where you really get into removing alot of material, while paying attention to design to get the most out each port for MAXIMUM power! This includes all of the above, and then some!
